ボゴール植物園と日本人の経営
By; Ali Syarief ボゴール植物園は、インドネシアの歴史と自然を語る上で重要な存在である。この植物園は1817年にオランダ人のカール・ルッックスによって創設されたが、時代を通してさまざまな国の影響を受けた。その中でも特に波乱に溢れたのが大東京戦争中の日本経営期間であった。 1942年の日本軍事侵略により、オランダ領から日本の管理下に入ったボゴール植物園は、将棋であった日本人、川崎樹之助によって経営された。川崎は植物学者であり、それまでにもインドネシアの植物监察に深く関わっていた。日本経営期には、植物の収集と研究が中心的に进められ、大気俗学と植物化学の分野で進歩がみられた。 しかし、1945年に日本が敗戦したことで、オランダ人の管理に戻され、川崎もオランダ側に投訴されることになった。この期間に科学的研究の基盤が強化されたとされるが、一方で戦争中の経営は深刻な影響も残した。 現代では、ボゴール植物園はインドネシアの自然を調査する大切な研究基地であると共に、日本を始めとした外国との研究協力も重要な作用を果たしている。日本経営の記憶はつまるところ映んんと残り、科学的基盤作りに役立ったとして評価されると同時に、戦争時代の難しさも追意される。 このような歴史の教訓を生かし、ボゴール植物園は近代植物学の高まる要求に応えつつ、大効用な知的資産として世界に伝えていくのであろう。
